Position: Kohatu Park Treasurer

My Background:

I live in Motueka, am married, the cats are the kids. Moved there after 20 years in Perth  and 15 years in London. Born in Dunedin. Working as an accountant in Motueka, previously General Manager of ENJO Australia, then GM of Thermomix Australia, both based in Perth. Before then, 15 years working in the retail motor industry – NZ, UK, Australia, jobs ranging from parts salesman to car sales director (Lotus, Lancia, Citroen).

Why I wanted to be a Kohatu Park board member:
I’ve been an active competitor in motor sport for over 20 years, in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and could see the need for a motorsport venue around Nelson that could also be the home for a number of motorsport clubs, and a destination for car clubs around the country.

I’ve always been a hands-on person, and really wanted to see Garry’s project succeed. If my input could help, I was happy to volunteer, and work together with the other board members to achieve this. The board has a diverse mix of knowledge and experience, and I believe it is well set up to reach its goal.

My Role as a Board Member:

Treasurer, promotion of the concept to individuals, groups and clubs, advice and input into decision-making, documentation, contracts, hands-on support at open days and shows, etc.

What I am most looking forward to at Kohatu Park:

The tarmac circuit, and some fast laps in a quick car! Also to see one person’s dream become reality, for Nelson/Tasman to have a fabulous adventure and motorsport facility, and to prove the naysayers wrong!

Position: Kohatu Park Trustee and Chairman of the Board

My Background:

I have been involved in the civil contracting industry for 30+ years, 25 of those years owning my own business, which had up to 70 staff. I have also been involved in multiple subdivision developments around Nelson region. Currently, I am a trainer in the civil construction industry and take NZQA unit standard courses on a range of different topics.

I am also an adventure sport and motorsport enthusiast and enjoy competing and helping out at events

Why I wanted Kohatu Park to happen:

I have always noticed demand for various activities around the region and would dream of a facility like Kohatu Park being able to cater for a number of different needs in the one location, so when the opportunity to create such a facility came up it was like a dream come true and in discussing my vision with others I soon found people who were willing to help turn this vision into a reality. As a result of such a range of people wanting a facility such as Kohatu Park to happen, it made sense to base the park around the community

My Role as a Kohatu Park Trustee and Chair of the Board:

To ensure that the Kohatu Park Trust operates as per their trust deed and work with the Board to develop a strategy for the future, raise funds for development, discuss leases with clubs and businesses, finalise the design and promote Kohatu Park

What I am most looking forward to at Kohatu Park:

Looking out form the club-rooms and seeing a park full of smiles as everyone enjoys their favourite activities

Why I wanted to be a Kohatu Park board member:
I'm a motorsport fan and have been for a long time. Although I've never raced myself, I definitely will be when this track is running. A few years ago I heard about Garry wanting to build a motorsport park and thought it was a great idea. When I first saw that the park planning was underway at the 4's&Rota comps in 2014 I signed up straight away. When I noticed in one of the member newsletters that there were vacancies in the board I got in contact with Garry and expressed my interest in the park and that I'd love to be a part of it. This is new to me I suppose I'm somewhat of the apprentice to the board but I'm eager to learn and hope I can help produce an amazing Park with both the motorsport and outdoor adventure side.

I'm excited for the future in this park and intend on hanging around as long as possible. I believe this is going to greatly benefit our community and our generations to come.

My Role as a Board Member:

Administration/Secretary role and I have also been helping with promotions and awareness for the park. Liasion for the Nelson Drag Racing Association.

What I am most looking forward to at Kohatu Park:

Hard question really. What's not too look forward to? The park is going to be huge and amazing, covering so many different aspects of fun and adventure. The potential for what is to come is endless!
